According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the new tablet will include the upcoming M5 processor, and feature two front-facing cameras.
The claims suggest the device will build on the major design changes introduced with the M4 iPad Pro in 2024.
According to Gurman, the upcoming M5 iPad Pro will retain the thinner design of its predecessor but will address a key usability issue with FaceTime and Face ID.
He wrote in his Power On newsletter: “When Apple rolled out the M4 iPad Pro in May 2024, it made the device thinner and (finally) moved the FaceTime camera from the portrait orientation to landscape.
“On the other hand, fans of portrait mode suddenly found it harder to unlock the device and use the front camera. So, what’s the solution? Pretty simple actually: Apple is apparently adding a second, portrait-side front-facing camera to the upcoming M5 iPad Pro.”
The addition of dual front cameras is expected to improve the experience for both videoconferencing and selfies, making it easier to use the iPad in any orientation.
While not a radical change, this marks the first time Apple has implemented such a feature on its tablet lineup.
The M5 chip, expected to be a performance boost over the M4, will likely focus on further optimising Apple Intelligence performance and graphics capabilities, as Apple continues to position its iPad Pro line as a hybrid device for creative professionals and power users.
Neither Apple nor its suppliers have officially commented on the reports, but MacRumors notes that the device is expected to be announced before the end of 2025, possibly alongside updates to other iPad models.
If the reports are accurate, the M5 iPad Pro could further strengthen Apple’s position in the premium tablet market, where the iPad Pro remains the benchmark for high-performance tablets.
